The Richest Man in Babylon: Review

Book Review

This is a fantastic primer for personal finance.

I would recommend this to everyone who wants to start the journey of learning in this space. This book was first published in 1926, and is set as a collection of parables from Babylon.

The fact that the whole book is set in a fictitious past setting is really interesting. It underlines the fact that all the principles discussed in the book are universal. These are as applicable to a trader in Babylon as they are to us today.
In fact, it is nearly a 100 years old, but still totally relevant to us.

The book is divided into chapters where each chapter is a principle of personal finance.

The first section: Seven cures for a lean purse.

This section has all the basic lessons in personal finance that each one of us would do well to learn and adhere to.

I don’t want to get into specifics as I would like to have you read the book.

Suffice to say that these lessons are applicable and relevant to our present lives.

The second part is titled: The Five Laws of Gold.

What would strike a reader of investing books is the similarity between these laws and what someone like Buffet says.

Again underlines the universality of these principles. This section is largely to do with investing and the mindset behind investing.

Very simply explained. The principles hold true whether you are investing in hard assets or crypto.

The last section talks about other individual stories that are meant to drive home specific lessons.

I would recommend this as a book to keep in your library and read often.

These are universal principles that we should keep refreshing in our minds.

Do get your own copy and gift it to people you might care about.
